Fabian Hamilton returns to Allerton Grange 22nd Oct 2010

Fabian Hamilton returned to Allerton Grange school today to meet with year 13 students studying Politics in the 6th form. It is the second visit by the Labour

Government member since the new school building opened its doors in September 2009.

Given the timing of the visit so soon after the Government cuts were announced, the selected students had many pertinent questions to ask and probed the mind of this popular local MP. They were mesmerized by his fascinating memories of his overseas visits to North Korea and Hiroshima giving detailed and graphical accounts of his conversations with local workers in North Korea to visiting the devastation left at Hiroshima. Mr Hamilton proved  his wealth of Political information and was readily available with answers from various topics from the students such as Education, Help for the Elderly and The Banking system. He spoke in great depth about the options available for further education and the fact that the policies created for the elderly which were set up by the Labour party remained untouched by the new coalition party. When asked how did he feel about now being part of the official opposition he said that he felt ‘totally powerless’ and went on to say that 6 months ago he would have been in a position to phone Ed Balls (Former Education Secretary) and speak to him personally if he requested some assistance with a school but that is no longer possible now that the coalition party is in place. When asked about his opinions on the recent Government cuts he went on to say that during the chancellors speech on Wednesday, he noticed that the word ‘Recession’ was not mentioned once.  On leaving the 6th form students with some advice he recommended that they take out a second pension for their future and Listen to the BBC Radio 4 program  “History of the World in 100 objects”.
