Financial Assistance for 6th formers

I am sure you are all aware that government financial support for students has been cut drastically this year. These are some of the changes that have been made:

• Students living independently, in care or registered disabled can apply for a weekly payment directly from school. This will be £30 per week during term time.
• Households with an income below £20,000 may apply for support to cover costs such as educational text books, equipment and stationery, course related trips/visits and exams re-sit fees. This is likely to be no more than £180 per student in any school year.
• EMA funding is no longer available for students newly enrolled to sixth form.
•  Some of our older students will be receiving a weekly transitional payment if they were on the top rate of EMA last year. They will have received a letter from EMA during the summer and should bring this in to school to register their eligibility, if they haven’t already done so.

We are writing to parents of all students in sixth form and enclosing our Bursary Checker Form so you can see if you are eligible for any of these payments. This should then be returned to Mrs Dickinson, 6^th Form administrator who will provide your son/daughter with the relevant application forms. Please note we will require supporting documentary evidence in most cases and receipts for all purchases you are claiming for.

It may be more practical, in some instances, to provide payment in kind e.g. when text books are required; school will buy and provide these from your allocated funding. This can be decided once your application has been processed.
