  • Subject Information

A level Law covers a broad range of topics that includes: Crime and Punishment, The Police, Courts, Tort Law, and looks at potential careers in the legal profession. The course would be particularly appropriate if you wish to learn more about how our country works and improve your knowledge and skills in debating, evaluation, critical thinking and literacy. It is also especially suitable if you are interested in considering a career in Legal Services or any profession where some legal understanding would be helpful including business management, accountancy, engineering etc. The subject particularly complements English, History, and all other social sciences. 

  • Entry Requirements

Standard 6th form entry requirement plus grade B in English.

  • Course Outline

Year 12 - AS

Two modules covering law making, Parliament, the Courts, Police Powers and some history of our system of government and legal processes. We also look at criminal law and negligence in greater detail. This is externally assessed by two 90 minute exams.

Year 13 - A2

In year 13 the course focus’ on Criminal Law and the law of Tort, again externally assessed by two 90 minute exam papers.

Law A level prepares you for university and work as you will learn skills and have an understanding of concepts that will prove invaluable to you later in life.
