A LEVEL SUCCESS FOR ALLERTON GRANGE – PHILOSOPHERS IN THE MAKING

We are delighted to have achieved another year of outstanding A level results with a 99% pass rate which includes 12A* and 26 A Grades.  These latest A Level results place us in firmly in the top 10% of all A Level providers nationally. Among the success stories were two students who are going to take their top A level grades with them to university to study philosophy. Corinne Lancaster has come top of her class with an outstanding ‘full marks’ in Citizenship – and dropping only two marks in A level Sociology. With a total of 4 A* grades as well as an AS at A grade, Corinne is off to study at Manchester University. Another of Allerton Grange’s excellent students is also off to study Philosophy. Laura Watson has 2 A* and 3 A‘s to her name and is going to York University. Not to be outdone, Sophie Hattersley is also going to take Philosophy at Newcastle University as she has attained AAB grades at A level.

Other students at Allerton Grange Sixth form have excelled in science with both Sarah Qasim and Sarah Griffin sharing success in this field. Sarah Qasim’s results mean that she will try for medicine next year with her A* in German and other two A grades. Sarah Griffin will be going to read Chemistry in Glasgow and another of our talented scientists, Stephen Proctor is also reading Chemistry after attaining AAAB in his A levels. Jack Hallas has the same AAAB grades and is going to take Physics at Lancaster University.

In addition to the academic success stories which we are proud to announce, we have several students who have excelled in vocational subjects. Health and social care students have gained 11distinctions between them and this has enabled them to take a variety courses at university which include primary education, youth work and sociology.

This year has seen fewer students choosing to take Gap years but one of our students who completed A levels last year, India Stephenson, is going to read Biological Sciences at Oxford this year after a year out and our very talented Musician, Jasdeep Degun who plays Sitar is going to SOAS. Jasdeep was lucky enough to take part in the BBC television show with Goldie during his Gap year as well as studying in India. Jasdeep says, ‘learning from Ustad Shujaat Khan, was absolutely phenomenal. I was able to soak in the rich ambience of Indian Classical Music, which is hard to get from living in the UK - but is something that is truly vital for Indian Classical music students’.

We wish all our students success in their future careers and look forward to hearing how they do in their studies. Hopefully they will do well and succeed like one of our past students, Roger Willis, who has graduated with a first class degree from Cambridge this year.
