Sixth Form
Our 6th Form
Allerton Grange Sixth Form is justifiably proud of its performance and continuing high value-added rating, which has seen it placed among the Top 10 in West Yorkshire; our success is due to the talented and specialist teachers in the school and the hard work of our students. We are a large progressive sixth form, which means that we can offer an extremely wide range of courses to choose from.
Whilst students are in the Sixth Form, they are treated as a young adult and given the rights and responsibilities associated with that status. They are valued as individuals with all their own personal needs being taken into account.
They are encouraged to make careful decisions about their own development and future, and also to contribute to the life of the Sixth Form and the wider community.
They have a form tutor who stays with them throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Tutors are available to help with any academic or personal problems and to refer students to any other help if needed. Students have regular meetings with form tutors and subject teachers to review performance and to discuss ways in which they can work to give themselves the very best chance of success.
This is a very supportive Sixth Form and we will do everything we can to ensure that students are successful. A student's studies will be matched to their ability as far as possible: we are able to do this because the curriculum and courses we offer are quite flexible.
In addition to the academic qualifications students gain we offer a comprehensive tutorial programme that includes a diverse range of subjects from controversial speakers such as holocaust survivors and speakers on Global warming to practical subjects like cooking on a budget and coping with the finances at university.
Every student has the opportunity to do a work placement during their time in year 12. This means that they have a chance to experience the real world of work and to make informed decisions about their future career paths.
Students are supported throughout their time at school to ensure that they make a smooth transition to further studies or to work. A complete package of careers assistance includes talks from people in a wide range of jobs, personal interviews and a wealth of expertise from the sixth form staff and careers professionals. Our recent successes mean that we currently have students who were with us and are now studying at universities throughout the country including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Leeds, Bristol and many others.
