In Key Stage 3 English we aim to develop and extend our students' learning and understanding in reading, writing and speaking and listening across the full three years during three one hour lessons each week. All students will study a new unit each half term ending with a formal assessment from which students set themselves specific and focused targets with teacher support to enable them to make further progress. The focus of these formal assessments alternate between reading and writing each half term. Also a speaking and listening assessment is completed each term and again student set individual targets.

All assessment levels are recorded electronically and this data is used to track and monitor student progress regularly throughout the year.

We aim to support your child to prepare effectively for the end of Key Stage 3 but also provide them with the skills essential for a successful transition into Key Stage 4 and their GCSE courses.
