German
Students who study German at Allerton Grange are introduced to Germany and the wider German-speaking world. The focus of learning is the use of language for real purposes of communication and students are encouraged to express themselves in the target language where possible. They are also taught the language features and grammatical structures necessary to understand how the language works. They have the opportunity to develop all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing using both classroom-based resources and authentic materials, designed to help prepare them to communicate in Germany or any German-speaking country.
Students also regularly have the opportunity to reinforce their learning with various IT or Web-based activities. In addition to this, we have a part time German Language Assistant who works with classes every fortnight, giving them the opportunity to practise the language they have learnt in the classroom with a real native speaker.
