Allerton Grange High School

Allerton Grange

The Faculty of Information Communication Technology

At Allerton Grange School we provide the skills that our students will need when they leave; either in entering the work place or continuing with their education.  The world that our learners enter is increasingly reliant on technology, so we need to ensure that our students have the skills and ability to be able to use and embrace this.  Every member of our society, no matter what our background or future plans, rely on the ability of businesses to create and provide us with the goods and services we need.

With these simple views in mind the Faculty of Business & ICT aims to give you a clear understanding of the fascinating and wide ranging topics in business, as well as a secure and worthwhile skill set with ICT.

Within Business Studies lessons our learners are introduced to some basic business concepts before learning about the heart of any business, for example finance, recruitment, marketing, business planning and more.

We teach as much of the course as possible by analysing business case studies or scenarios. Students will be expected to look at some of the dilemmas and struggles faced by many firms and come up with their own opinions of what they would do if they were running a business themselves. We use the UK economic environment that businesses operate within as a teaching tool so that the lessons are meaningful for the students’ futures.  Our skilled and experienced staff offer assistance and guidance for independent work, as well as traditional classroom teaching, to encourage and develop pupils skills in analysis, research and the presentation of various business concepts.

Within ICT lessons our students are encouraged to find, develop, analyse and present information, as well as to model situations and solve problems. ICT enables rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures, and allows pupils to collaborate and exchange information on a wide scale.

The ICT Department at Allerton Grange has the responsibility of ensuring that all students gain the essential skills and qualifications that we believe are vital to life at Allerton Grange and beyond. The department helps our pupils develop their understanding of the social, ethical, legal and economic implications of ICT in our society; this includes how to use ICT safely and responsibly.

Homework to extend learning at home is set for both subjects within the Faculty on a weekly basis.  Results have shown that those students who complete the homework set are the students who achieve the highest grades for their qualifications.(see link on the left for homework information and links)

In addition to subject lessons leading to qualifications the Faculty of Business Studies and ICT also offer after school support lessons and clubs.  These including:
