Allerton Grange

Intervention

The aims of intervention in English are to:
enable students to reach their individual learning targets;
boost their confidence in their reading and writing skills;
help them access all areas of the curriculum.
Students are identified for the Intervention Cohort following half termly assessments and conversations with their class teacher. Once areas for improvement have been identified, students will be offered extra support and assistance in order to achieve their targets.

Intervention methods in English include:

Peer mentoring in the form of Reading Challenge;
After-school English club;
One-to-one support from the English Teaching Assistant;
Small group booster sessions;
SATs academy.
The Ruth Miskin scheme is also offered to those students with weak literacy skills and is delivered by the library staff.

Students at Allerton Grange have found a renewed confidence in English following their intervention sessions and teachers have noted that their overall attainment has increased.
