KS3: All students study one language until the end of Year 9. In German and Spanish students are entered for the FCSE (Foundation Certificate of Secondary Education) in Year 9 thus giving them a qualification in languages regardless of whether they decide to continue with them at GCSE. French students follow the exciting Michel Thomas methodology until the end of year 9, while Urdu and Panjabi offer Asset Languages. For more information about Michel Thomas please click here.
Jan 2012: A GCSE in a foreign language forms part of the new "E-Bacc" qualification introduced by the current Government, and is likely to be very important to students applying to universities, and to some employers in the coming years. For further information click here .Department for Education or speak to one of the languages teachers.
KS4: In Years 10 and 11 students can follow the traditional GCSE route in the language they studied in KS3 where they follow the AQA syllabus.
KS5: In Years 12 and 13 students can continue with languages to AS and A2 Level where they follow the WJEC (Welsh Board) syllabus.
Foreign Language Assistants for French, German and Spanish are employed each year to enhance learning in each of the year groups and we run successful exchanges and visits to France, Germany and Spain.
In addition to these foreign visits, students have plenty of opportunities to go on visits out of school where they can practise their language in a more authentic environment. (see Languages events above)
