Urdu is one of the 27 languages that has 50 million or more speakers worldwide. The word “URDU” is a Turkish word and it means “an army of legion”.  Urdu is written from right to left just like Arabic and Persian.  Urdu has 39 basic letters and 13 extra characters.  It has almost all the ‘sounds’ available in any other language spoken in the world.

Why learn Urdu?

·  It is a living language spoken by 490 million people around the world.

·  The Urdu community in the UK numbers about one million speakers.

·  It is not just a practical language spoken on a daily basis, but one that produced great scholars and poets.

·  Learning Urdu will also help you recognise words in Arabic and Persian since many words are common in all three languages.

·  People will respect the fact that you make an effort to speak to them in their language, whether abroad or in the UK.

·  An AS/A2 Urdu would help to accrue credit points towards entry into universities in your chosen subjects.  It is relatively easy to do an AS/A level in Urdu in comparison to other subjects.  Your home and cultural environment provide you with an excellent grounding to update your skills and thus helps you to get good grade at AS/A level.

·              In order to, keep your cultural and religious identity intact it is vital to learn your mother tongue.  Research has proved that bilingual child’s brain works faster than a monolingual child and it helps to grasp concepts in other subjects as well.

·              Due to economic boom in South East Asia major companies based not only in UK but also in other parts of the world are shifting their manufacturing and other facilities to those countries where Urdu/Hindi is spoken and therefore they are actively seeking candidates equipped with these language skills
